There are two types of photographers, the ones who prefer a flawless capture and no editing and the ones who take a normal photo and turn it into a masterpiece, thanks to their editing skills. We take both methods to be perfectly fine. After all, it only narrows down to whatever you are comfortable with and whatever is giving you results.

When we look at photo editing, there are a couple of head-on benefits for it. Your dull, and dark images can be refreshed with enhanced colors. You may fix the brightness and contrast by the use of photo enhancement techniques. You can use it to eliminate the during-capture glitches, and more.

While on the topic of editing, we’d like to hook you up with some tips and techniques to help you turn your pictures a bit catchier, eye-pleasing, and awe-inspiring.

No Compromise Over Composition

If you want to follow the basic rules of photography, always prefer perfect composition over supplementary-editing.

Don’t get us wrong. Editing can just play its part in enhancing the colors as well as the composition of a picture just fine. But, if a photo lacks better composition, always opt for making it better by using tools of editing apps. Tools like cropping, healing and brushes help a lot for this purpose.

Afterwards, if you still feel the need for more, you may opt for other editing tools.

Use Third-Party Editing Apps

Third-party editing app means the software or application that can be used to edit the photos. These third-party editing apps have a variety of tools to add or remove colors, objects, focus and adjust the position of objects you want to change which can prove to be a great idea if you are doing something creative. However, for pictures that you are probably going to use for story telling on your blog, you can fix them a little by using your mobile phone editing apps like Snapseed or Lightroom. This will help your pictures appear fresher, brightened and saturated with the assistance of little enhancement techniques. Snapseed is best for mobile users as all of its tools are free to use. Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop are best for PC users and specially for special effects. Both of these apps retain the image quality and give exquisite colors.

Use Presets

Preset is a customized configuration of settings that are designed to achieve a certain goal or look of your photo. It can be applied to the photo by a single click if you already have a saved preset in your collection. It is an extremely helpful utility in saving time as it can be applied to a certain photo by a single click.

Colors Management of a Photo

Color management basically refers to the process of correcting and controlling the colors of the photograph. Beginner usually end up with overexposed photos having comparatively high intense colors. This vanishes all the efforts done for better composition. So, this point must be taken into consideration while putting energy into editing for a better photo. Otherwise, you may just be fooling your mind into believing that you are a good editor.

Colors should never be too dull, too dark, or too bright. Rather, the colors should be bright and visible – moderation is the key. A color should be bright enough to distinguish itself from any other color in the photo. For instance, the skin color must always be visibly different from the color of lips in the picture. But if a color is distracting the viewer from the main object, it should be desaturated (lowering the intensity of colors that may distract from the main object). Desaturating the color is as vital as saturating them, it depends on the situation you are in.

Editing is all about fixing colors so this step needs careful consideration.

Don’t Go Overboard With Editing

I can’t stress enough that how important it is to realize that going overboard with all the editing can ruin your picture quality. Basically, it changes all the data that is tied to the specific pixels. Always remember that less can go a long way. Too much editing is always not a good option to go for. It will make your pictures appear fake and clearly you want people to recognize you by your photography skills not by your editing skills.

Final Thoughts

The quality of picture matters a lot when it comes to editing. You just cannot make a low pixels and compressed picture look perfect with your editing. Moreover, for your picture to stand out, it must have good composition.

Also, Third-party editor apps need to be chosen very carefully. App must have a friendly interface and it should be easy to use. Lightroom, in this case, is not recommended for a beginner as it has a little bit of a complex interface.
